Ready Golf is just that...

Seriously what is so hard about the following two words, Ready Golf? Sure, when you are on the first tee, flip the tee in the air and let that decide who has honors. Beyond the first tee, unless you have a game for money and your group has figured strokes and handicaps, then its go to your ball and hack away. Granted, there still needs to be some sort of etiquette so don't just start firing without helping out your fellow golfers by watching their shots. But if they are still walking to their shots fire at will.

Lets get the game moving. Treat it like you would a euchre game, fast and ready!

Get it in the short stuff.

Play the correct tees.

I will admit that I have ignored this in the past. I wanted the "Full Test" of the course. Well what did this get me? Inflated scores, deflated confidence, and long, painful rounds. Why bother with that?

The easy way to figure out what tees to play from is from your previous low round. What was the yardage, what was the slope? Give yourself a chance at having a good time. Don't just try and kill yourself, especially when the course is full in front and behind you.

For those not afraid of a little arithmetic, take the average distance of your 5 iron and multiply it by 36. This will give you a maximum yardage that should be attempted.

Finally, for those who carry a USGA Handicap index then you should follow the guidelines set up by the course you are playing. With that said, if you find that your group is a mixed bag of skills and your not playing for big $$, then just pick a set of tees that doesn't overwhelm your partners.

Show up 20- 30 minutes early for your tee time.

You will not be rushed to the first tee forced to hit an impossible low rising power fade to a bottle necked fairway. With this time you can warm up, hit a small bucket of balls. Use the practice green. The putter will be the most used club in your bag. So get used to the speed of the greens, get confident over those three footers. Because when you start draining those you will speed up the game for everyone.

To show up early also tells the starter that you're ready to go, and they might just let you tee off earlier, allowing you to make that dinner with the significant other.

You can look at it in two ways, showing up early will give you a better chance of breaking your personal low and/or get back to the non golfers in your life in a respectable time.

Etiquette Matters

Nothing is more frustrating to a golfer than the foursome in front playing a an absurdly slow pace. This will be an exercise in helping golfers speed up their games and enjoy a round of golf. I hope you feel the same way, and please feel free to comment and add your own suggestions.
